More than £6,000 has been raised in just ten days for the family of Epsom teenager Dominic Bernard who was murdered in Guyana.

His aunt Ann Paul Gobderhan set up a GoFundMe page on Friday, January 15 to help Mr Bernard’s parents Linda and Andrew with air fare, accommodation, funeral parlour and legal fees.

As of Monday, January 25, £6,167 had been raised.

Mr Bernard’s parents flew out to Guyana last week, where they attended a court hearing and thanked local people for holding candlelight vigils and for their support.

Mr Bernard’s body was found in a shallow grave on Friday, January 8 after he went missing in October 2015, shortly after travelling to the South American country to explore his Guyanan heritage and his love for photography and filmmaking.

Five people have since been charged in connection with the aspiring filmmaker’s murder – including his godbrother, Aaron Hing, 22, and 23-year-old Staymon George.

Friends and family have also been leaving tributes on Ms Gobderhan's GoFundMe page.

Devika Persaud wrote: “My deepest condolences to the Bernard family.

“May God continue to give you the strength and support you need to get through this.

“If my heart is so broken after hearing of your son I cannot imagine what you guys are going through.

“Heaven has gained another angel. I'm so sorry for your loss.”

Lauren Faye Pollard Forde wrote: “My deepest sympathy to the Bernard family.

“May your son rest in peace. God bless you all.”

Bibi Hodge Shaw wrote: “May God give the family strength in this time of sorrow and pray that those that took his life so callously pay for their sins and the unjust way of treating someone they were supposed to take care of.

“May God be your family at this time as you grieve.”

His aunt wrote: “The UK authorities are accommodating in minor ways, but not assisting in any way financially.

“We are a fun and loving family, and we will do anything for anyone. Now is the time that we need to show our support for Linda and Andrew.

“Share this campaign in any way you know how.

“We can ease their suffering in a way where at least they would not have to worry about future expenses. Let's do this.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know we will get a great response. That's just what we do in times of need. God bless you.”
