South American police have arrested two men in connection with the disappearance of a teenager from Epsom after a body was found.

Dominic Bernard, 19, from Epsom, had travelled to Guyana in October where he had extended family including his godbrother, Aaron Hing, aged 22.

He did not come home as expected in November and was reported missing by his family.

Mr Hing has now been arrested following his godbrother's disappearance, it has been reported.

Surrey Comet:

Mr Bernard, an aspiring filmmaker pictured above, had flown over to the capital Georgetown, on October 14 last year and was supposed to fly back to England on November 5 but he never got on his flight.

An investigation was launched and Bernard’s dad, Andrew Bernard flew out from London to assist police and make a desperate plea for for help.

It has been reported Mr Hing was arrested as he tried to check into a hotel early on Saturday.

According to local media another man, Staymon George, 23, was also arrested at a house in Tucville, Georgetown.

The Daily Mirror reported Mr Bernard had never been to Guyana before and he was expected to stay with Mr Hing for the duration of his trip but local media reported Mr Hing had denied meeting up with him when asked.

Reports from Guyana have indicated that a badly decomposed body has been discovered by investigators in a shallow grave near to the area he was scheduled to stay in, but DNA tests are ongoing.

An appeal posted on social media earlier this month said the teenager's family were extremely worried about Dominic's disapperance.

The appeal said: "It would appear that no one picked him up from the airport and that he went missing before he managed to make contact with his friend.

"He didn't take any credit cards with him but was travelling with a large amount of loose cash.

"His family and friends are inevitably extremely worried.

"His father, a Jamaican, is now in Guyana trying to find him but having never been to Guyana before needs all the help he can get."

A statement released by Dominic's family on Saturday said: "Dominic was full of hope, ambition, creativity, self-respect, faith and trust.

"He was very much loved by all his family, as well as a wide circle of friends.

"He was a talented film-maker and we are in no doubt he had a bright and successful future ahead of him.

"He travelled to Guyana to pursue his dream of studying film-making. [He was] already an accomplished photographer, director and editor with several music videos under his belt.

"We are grateful and thankful for the incredible investigation and assistance of Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum and his team of investigators who have worked tirelessly the past few days."

A quote published on A Major Production, a company where Dominic listed his job as Director/DP/Editor on his Facebook page, said: "I want the world to be better because I was here."

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "Surrey Police has been notified that authorities in Guyana searching for missing Epsom man Dominic Bernard have discovered a body.

"Although the body has yet to be formally identified, Surrey Police officers - including specialist family liaison officers - are providing the Bernard family with updates and support at this difficult time.

"Dominic was reported missing to Surrey Police in November 2015, having travelled to Guyana in October.

"The investigation is being led by the Guyana Police Force but Surrey Police will continue to liaise with all relevant agencies as enquiries continue.

"Anyone in the UK with any information should report it by calling 101 quoting Operation Acacia or report it online by visiting www.surrey.police.uk."
