May I thank everyone in this generous borough who have helped to raise the amazing figure of over £40,000 in this commemoration year, for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

This is a record, and a testament to all the poppy collectors, counters, distributors, churches, businesses and schools who have helped to make this year so memorable and raise this fantastic sum of money, which is so badly needed to support and care for our armed forces and their families, past and present.

From the schoolboy who raised £15 by selling poppy lapel pins at his school, to the WW2 veteran whose tin was so full and heavy with over £400 he couldn’t lift it  - I  thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
