We are writing to ask the Epsom Guardian to help us reduce unnecessary strokes. We have been involved, as public/patients representatives, with the Surrey Downs CCG and the South East Coast Cardiovascular Network, on the prevention of stroke work-streams and the new plans are looking good.
However, it is clear that patients with heart irregularities often are waiting far too long to be started on anti-coagulation treatment. These delays lead to serious strokes.
Our GPs are hard pressed to find time for extra appointments, so we are starting a campaign for a one stop, raid access clinic, to which patients can be referred swiftly and thus not suffer disabling strokes through lack of swift ant-coagulation.
We are asking any patients with relevant stories about their own treatment to get in touch with us - either by attending the Arrhythmia patient support group we have started at Epsom Hospital, (next meeting is 8th October at 4.45pm, speaker Clinical Cardiology lead of South East Coast Network) or by emailing: info@surreyasg.co.uk, or by telephoning 07986564651.
All information received will be treated in the strictest confidence but we need your stories to help us in our campaign.
