Does anybody else note the double standards in the local Conservative campaign to save Epsom Hospital?
The reason for this is that two hospitals out of five have to face severe reductions in A&E and other services in an area of South West London, which for some reason includes Epsom. If you watch the London news you will know that many other areas around London are facing similar battles, including Lewisham, Hammersmith and Ealing.
It has been deemed that, as always, centralisation is better than localism and less is more.
So we have the difficult situation that for Epsom to retain its services two other hospitals must lose their's. This cannot be right.
As always these decisions have been made centrally and, although they are couched in terms like 'review' they have come from the Government. Currently there is changes happening so that the Health Secretary, Chris Grayling's cabinet colleague Jeremy Hunt, can close hospital departments without that pesky consultation.
So while the Conservatives claim to support local hospitals it is their decisions that is driving the closures.
It would be good if Chris Grayling would tell us where he stands on the centralisation of hospital services as I am confused about position.
