Mr Terry Partleton wrote in to you to query me on why council tax in Epsom & Ewell has risen again (Forget the spin, why has our council tax gone up again? May 20)
As regular readers will be aware there has been considerable detailed correspondence on this topic in recent months, including from Darren Dale, our group leader on Epsom & Ewell Borough Council. The fact is that the Conservatives only have 3 councillors on this council- the tax rises were pushed through by the controlling Residents Association Party against opposition from all other local parties.
We believe that these rises were unnecessary and unjustified and the council should have taken the Government’s extra funding to freeze council tax, and have been saying so for years.
If residents want councillors who will fight harder to keep council tax down, they need to replace the existing RA majority.
