120 year 9 students from the Glyn School in Epsom discovered the thrills and challenges of running their own business.

Taking part in a business game run by Satro, a social enterprise that teaches and mentors business skills to young people, the students were given the task of setting up and running their own stationery company.

The students had to allocate roles, come up with a name and logo, develop products for market and make a profit - all in just one day! They even had to do a pitch Dragon Den's style.

They were ably steered by a team of volunteers from local businesses who took time out from their busy schedule to help the students in developing their business skills.

One of the pupils said: I was surprised to learn that each part of a business is so important that if it's not performed effectively, the whole group falls apart. Also, the way a company is managed is also vital in motivating the team and ensuring that deadlines are met and the product is good quality.”

Clare Jefferis, an Epsom-based business owner said: "I was impressed to see the students getting stuck in and working together to solve problems.

It was great seeing local businesses, the school and the charity collaborating to give these students the best preparation for starting out in the working world."
