Now that images and a model of the proposed sculpture have been on display in the Ebbisham Centre for four or five months, will Epsom and Ewell Council announce how much money has been promised towards the cost?
And how many people have put pledges into the box?
This number would give a good indication of the level of public support for the selected sculpture.
Last week I saw three local residents looking at the display and asked them what they thought.
The best they could manage, from a man in his early 30s, was ‘It has a tenuous link to Emily Davison’ (not, however, a link that the majority of people passing the roundabout would identify without prior knowledge of the artist’s thoughts, as set out in her proposal.)
I also wonder how much has been raised from sponsorship and grants?
I believe it was hoped that the sculpture would be in place in time for the 2014 Derby.
