The two Conservative MPs in Reigate and Banstead and Mole Valley, Crispin Blunt and Sir Paul Beresford made substantial increases to their already huge majorities.

Sir Paul increased his vote to 31,263 from 27,060 in 2005 while Crispin Blunt, shadow anti terrorism minister, won 26,688 votes ,up from 20,884 at the previous election.

Banstead's BNP candidate Keith Brown trailed in fifth in a six horse race.

In Reigate and Banstead the Lib Dem vote increased to 13,097 up from 9,896 while the Labour vote dropped to 5,672 from 8,896.

In Mole Valley there was only a slight increase in the Lib Dem vote to 15,610 up from 15,063 but the Labour vote slipped to 3,804 from 5,310.

Conservative Epsom and Ewell councillor Sean Sullivan fighting his first general election in the unwinnable Labour seat of Tottenham found himself fighting against nine other candidates including Labour minister David Lammy and came in third place with a vote of 6,064 against the Lib Dem vote of 7,197 and finding himself facing the unassailable Labour lead of 24,128 votes.
