Two former Royal Engineers in the British Army completed an international journey in truly paranormal fashion

Steven Haslam and close friend Roy Mowbray drove 3,400 miles from Barrow to Gibraltar towards the end of last year.

To do so, they transformed their 2002 V70 Volvo into a Ghostbusters-inspired vehicle, naming themselves 'The Coast Thrusters' for the Blind Veterans Banger Rally.

In the process, they were looking to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity base in Kirkby Lonsdale, as well as St Mary's Hospice.

Mr Haslam said: "We chose our two charities because you never know when you’re going to need an air ambulance if you’re involved in a serious crash, and St Mary’s is our local hospice, which you never know when you’re going to need either."

The hospice revealed earlier this week that the pair's efforts resulted in the charity receiving £1,630, with a promise made that the funds would be put 'straight to good use'.
