The UK's most beautiful places have been named and one London spot has been named in the top ten.

While the Barbican Estate began as a housing complex it has since become a hidden landmark of London with its brutalism architecture blended with natural green and large water areas.

The heavy concrete space has often been praised for its fresh take on housing, which has now seen it be named the third most beautiful spot in the UK.

Times Out describe the hidden landmark as "cool, imposing and utterly magnificent".

Why London's Barbican Estate was named the most beautiful place in the UK

The Barbican might not be to everyone's taste, as Times Out shares: "There are plenty of people who don’t appreciate its peaceful vistas, towering greyness and general atmosphere of faded glamour."

Describing the spot as "utterly magnificent" and how walking around "its silent streets makes me feel like I’m in a Cold War era spy movie."

The Barbican is also home to one of London's most popular art venues, along with a "stunning verdant conservatory, plush auditoriums, chic martini bar and loads of quiet little nooks for working or gossiping in."

Times Out is not the only fan of the Barbican Estate, as many visitors took to the online review site Tripadvisor to share their opinions.
