An 11-year old boy from Epsom was among the 300 competitors to play in the European table-tennis championships in France this August.
Oliver Maric-Murray, of Whitgift School, was knocked out of the third qualifying stage of the EuroMini Championships and went into the consolation event, where he finished third.
Oliver had made it through to the early qualifying groups with four victories out of six against opponents from Belgium, France and Spain.
At the consolation event, he fought his way through several rounds to reach the semi-finals, where he was defeated 3-1 by Uri Almor of Israel.
Oliver ended on a high with a 3-1 victory over Julian Rzihauschek of Austria to finish third in the consolation standings.
The table-tennis competition runs from August 24 to 26 in Schiltigheim near Alsace.
