Storage units will have to be demolished in the aftermath of Monday's fire in Epsom Business Park.

At about 4pm on Monday, fire crews from Surrey, Sussex and London were all called to Kiln Lane to the major incident.

In total, Surrey Fire and Rescue sent 14 trucks to the industrial area.

Videos and photos from the scene showed black smoke rising high in the air, with people saying it could be seen all the way in Sutton.

Although the brigade said the fire was under control at 7pm, around three hours after it first started, crews were on the site for a "considerable" amount of time.

When Surrey Fire were contacted days later, it confirmed that due tot eh damage caused by the fire, two of the storage units in the area will have to be "totally demolished."

A spokesman also said the cause of the fire was being investigated, although it was too early to comment at this stage.

That same day, at nearly the exact same time, fire crews were called to a large blaze miles away in Lower Morden.

In this instance the fire broke out at a site between the Garth Road Waste Recycling Centre and Merton & Sutton Joint Cemetery.
