People in Epsom and Ewell are among the happiest and feel among the most worthwhile in south London and Surrey.

That’s according to new data released by the Office for National Statistics, which mapped the areas where people feel happiest, most satisfied, least anxious and feel most worthwhile.

The data was collected between April 2016 and March 2017 and residents were asked to give a figure between zero and ten, saying how they felt in each of the four areas.

Epsom and Ewell scored 7.8 for happiness, beating neighbours such as Merton (7.7), Sutton (7.5), Kingston (7.6) and Elmbridge (7.6).

The borough also rated highly for feeling worthwhile, with a score of 8.1 out of ten, compared to Sutton’s 8.0, Kingston’s 7.9, Elmbridge’s 7.8 and Reigate and Banstead’s 7.7.

Epsom mayor, councillor Liz Frost said the news was “not entirely surprising”.

She added: “I’m pleased to represent the borough and although everywhere has its own challenges we have nice open spaces here and in the past we won awards for being the most courteous town.”

Epsom was named the 'most courteous town in the UK’ after winning Top Town in the National Campaign of Courtesy Award in 2015.

Epsom and Ewell also had the lowest anxiety levels with a score of 2.7, compared to 3.4 for the most anxious south London boroughs such as Wandsworth and Greenwich.

For life satisfaction, Epsom and Ewell was on par with Richmond, Kingston, Epsom and Ewell, Sutton, Croydon and Sevenoaks who all reported 7.7.
