Arsonists destroyed a caravan in Epsom amidst a “spate of anti-social behaviour” in which a wall was pushed over and bricks thrown at houses.

Members of the public were also attacked in the street, and another resident was slapped in their own home last weekend, Surrey Police stated.

A parked caravan was set alight in the residential car park in Gainsborough Road, Epsom, sometime between 8.45pm and 9.07pm on Sunday (January 29). The woman who slept in the caravan was not inside when it was burnt.

Surrey Police are investigating, and urge the arsonists to consider how the victim “must be feeling right now”.

Temporary Sergeant Lisa Betchley said it was a "group of white youths aged about 15 to 18 years old" who pushed over the brick wall in Gainsborough Road and were throwing bricks at houses.

She added: “Last weekend we had a spate of anti-social behaviour in Epsom – particularly in the area of the Longmead Estate.

“This sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we won’t tolerate it in the borough.

"We have stepped up patrols in the area as a result and I’d like to reassure residents that we are doing everything possible to find those responsible for these appalling offences.

“I would urge anyone with information to think about how the victim of the caravan must be feeling right now as well as those people who have had bricks thrown through their windows or been assaulted by these teenagers.

“Please do the right thing and contact us so we can progress our investigation and put them before the court.”
