A delivery driver was forced to lie on the floor with his hands behind his head and then shut in the back of his lorry while robbers wearing high-visibility jackets stole cigarettes from his vehicle.

The “extremely shaken” driver was approached by two men – one of whom wore a white face mask – while unloading goods at the Tesco petrol station in Oxshott Road, Leatherhead at about 10.15am on Friday, June 10.

The two men ordered him to put his hands behind his head and lie down on the floor while they loaded an empty cage with cigarettes from the back of his lorry.

The suspects then shut the driver in the back of his lorry before driving off in a van in an unknown direction.

The delivery driver was left unharmed but was “extremely shaken” by the incident.

Both men are described as in their 20s or 30s and of medium build.

One was wearing a black top, beige trousers, a pair of white Dunlop trainers, and a white face mask which covered most of his face. The second man was wearing a grey t-shirt. Both men were wearing high-visibility jackets.

Detective Constable Michael Barker, who is investigating the latest incident, said: "This was a serious incident which has understandably left the victim, who was trying to do his job, extremely shaken.

"Although we have already carried out extensive enquiries, we are appealing for anyone who may have been on the forecourt and witnessed the offence or seen the suspects' vehicle in the area prior to the incident, to come forward.

Surrey Police have linked the robbery to another incident at the Shell petrol station in Godstone Hill at about 6am on Bank Holiday Monday (May 30).

The victim was loading empty crates back into the vehicle when he was approached and threatened by two men who stole tobacco from his delivery vehicle before shutting him in the rear of the delivery vehicle and making off.

DC Michael Barker added: "This offence was very similar to an incident at the Shell petrol station in Godstone two weeks ago and we are treating them as linked.

“However, while this is the second incident of a similar nature, we would like to reassure people that we are carrying out a full and thorough investigation and remain determined to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”
