Crowbar-wielding masked robbers threatened staff before stealing cash and spirits from a Ewell supermarket on Saturday night.

Staff at Sainsbury’s Local in Cheam Road, Ewell, were told to get on the floor and threatened if they did not comply at about 10.55pm on Saturday, May 14.

Surrey Police said the two suspects were “armed with crowbars and wearing clothing which covered their faces”.

Police have not offered a description of the people they are looking for, but believe that they are men.

About £1,000 in coins was taken from the tills as well as a bottle of spirits, although the total amount stolen is still being investigated.

Surrey Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the robbery and believe one of the suspects may have been in the area of the front entrance of the store at about 10.30am - 12 hours before the robbery.

Local Neighbourhood Sergeant Eddie Adderley said: "(Criminal Investigation Department) officers are carrying out a number of enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage at the store and other properties.

“However we are very keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the offence or has any other information.”

A spokesperson has been contacted for more information.
