Residents’ Association councillors have won the local elections in Epsom while the Liberal Democrats have been wiped out.

The final result was 31 RA, four Tory and three Labour councillors. Last time around, there were 26 RA councillors, six Liberal Democrats, three Tories and three Labour councillors.

The Conservatives took three seats in College Ward from the Liberal Democrats and Labour held onto three seats in Court ward. 

Meanwhile the Residents’ Association have held onto all seats in West Ewell, Auriol, Ewell Court, Cuddington, Nonsuch and Ewell wards. 

They have also gained two seats from Conservatives in Ruxley ward, a seat from Conservatives in Stoneleigh and three seats from Lib Dems across Stamford ward and Town wards. 

However, one Tory seat was taken from the RA in Woodcote ward. 

 

Over in Mole Valley, the Tories have taken Liberal Democrat seats in Leatherhead North and Box Hill and Headley.

The RA councillors have held had majority control of Epsom and Ewell Council for more than 70 years - it is one of the few councils in the country not run by the main political parties.

Tories, Labour and the Liberal Democrats had put forward a raft of candidates but there are there were no UKIP council candidates standing and only one Green Party hopeful.

The Residents Assocation have welcomed the election of former councillor John Beckett and newcomer Peter Webb in Auriol ward and Eber Kington, Peter O'Donovan and Guy Robbins in Ewell Court ward.

College Ward has seen the election of Tories Jane Race, Alexander Clarke and Omer Kokou-tchri.

A third of councillors are also up for election in neighbouring Reigate and Banstead and Mole Valley Councils.

It is set to be an interesting day in Mole Valley where no party has overall control while Reigate and Banstead is led by the Conservatives.

Conservatives have taken Box Hill and Headley ward from the Liberal Democrats with former councillor David Preedy losing to Tory Malcolm Ladell.

Over in Leatherhead North, Tory Santiago Mondejar Flores has replaced longtime Liberal Democrat councillor Bridget Lewis-Carr.

In the outgoing Epsom Council, there were 26 RA councillors, six Liberal Democrat councillors, three Labour councillors and three Conservative councillors.

Before today, Mole Valley Council had 15 Liberal Democrats, 19 Conservatives, six Independents and one vacancy, while the executive is a coalition of Conservative and Independent councillors.

Over in Reigate and Banstead, there were 36 Conservative councillors, seven Residents’ Association councillors, three Green party councillors, two Liberal Democrat councillors, one Independent councillor, one UKIP councillor and one vacancy.
