A man who has grown half a strange beard for charity says he has also developed an alter ego known as Arthur Beard-Face.

Chas March, 44, from Epsom Downs, grew a one-sided ginger beard as a bet for Movember. But he has now resolved to keep his unusual facial hair until donations dry up.

So far he has raised nearly £4,700 for mental health charity, Wiltshire Mind, with 10 per cent of donations going to junior rugby.

Mr March said: "It started on November 1st as a bet for Movember. I have been growing a half beard with the left hand side of my face clean shaven and the right fully bearded.

"I have chosen not to trim this side and let it grow out as is its want. Looks strange.

"Myself and my alter-ego, Arthur Beard-Face, are in our 13th week together and are planning to remain in partnership while the donations keep on coming.

"We are raising money for a mental health charity of which my father is a trustee."

Through Facebook, Mr March is posting photographs of his growing beard and thanking to everyone who has donated every few weeks.

Just after the end of Movember, he announced: "There was no trip up the stairs for Arthur, no scraping of skin to remove the ginger growth, no Nivea cream to soothe.

"Due to the fantastic support over the last couple of weeks Arthur has decided to hang around until the New Year or indeed longer if the donations keep arriving."

He added: "Remember if you donate, Arthur will remain in state."

Movember is annual tradition which involves men growing moustaches for November to raise money and awareness about men's health issues including prostate cancer.
