The mother of a young girl with a rare genetic condition is organising a charity raffle and cake sale at work.

Marina Nader, manager of Leightons Opticians in Epsom High Street, is inviting people to pop in as a military parade passes through town on Saturday.

Proceeds will go to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (PWSA), which improves the lives of people with the complex medical condition.

Mrs Nader said: ""It is a charity which is close to my heart as my daughter Eva was diagnosed at three weeks with the condition.

"It was quite a shock. When they first told us, we didn’t know what it was at all."

Eva, now two and a half years old, has restricted growth, reduced muscle tone and delayed learning. The family has been helped by PWSA.

Mrs Nader said: "They have a really good support network. It makes you feel that you are not on your own. It’s so rare. We are trying to raise awareness really."

The NHS says the condition affects no more than one in every 15,000 children born in England. Cakes will go on sale from 10am and the raffle draw will take place at about 4pm.

The first prize is a pair of designer sunglasses, the second prize is a lemonade bottle top clock donated by Tresoros in Stoneleigh and the third prize is a Swarovski crystal bag.
