The GPs’ group which axed an award-winning health service last month has said that it will not hold a public meeting explaining its decision.

Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group (SDCCG) said the public would be given a "brief update" at its next governing body meeting affter it pulled the plug on Epsom Down Integrated Care Services (Edics).

Edics provided speciaist care for community clinics in Epsom and Elmbridge but was forced into administration last month, angering service users and patients.

A spokeswoman for SDCCG explained no meeting would be called because all the patients affected by the change had already been contacted.

She said the CCG is in mediation with Edics’ administrators, which if unsuccessful, "could lead to legal action by the parties".

There would also be a review of how the services, which were provided by Edics, will be delivered in the long-term.

She added: "We expect this part of the review to be completed during September and October."

There are also concerns that not enough of Edics services had been transferred to Epsom Hospital, whose own future is under threat because of the BSBV review of acute services.

The spokesman pointed out that almost half of Edics clinics, 19 out of 37 were transferred into the hospital.

Edics’ administrators, Michael Kiely and Peter Kubik, of UHY Hacker Young LLP, said they were unable to comment.

The SDCCG governing body meeting will be held on September 27, from 2.30pm to 5pm, at Elmbridge Borough Council, Civic Centre, High Street, Esher, KT10 9SD.
