Thousands of foodies came to Kingston at the weekend, to enjoy a host of culinary delights at the Kingston Food Festival.

The second weekend of the annual event saw the return of the Kingston Big Market, with more than 50 stalls packing in to Market Place, Union Street and Clarence Street.

Several Kingston businesses got involved, including La Tasca, O’Neils, Frankie & Benny’s and Riverside Vegeteriana.

In Memorial Gardens, a children’s festival taught bread roll making and cake decorating to aspiring young chefs, while the Live Food Stage hosted cookery demonstration plus an extreme food challenge - which saw contestants swallow toasted leaf cutter ants and fermented herring.

Meanwhile Fairtrade tea company Clipper brought its magical tea pot tour to Union Street, handing out an estimated 14,000 free tea bags over the two days.

Kingstonfirst chief executive Ros Morgan said: "We've had a glorious weekend of food and drink across the town centre.

"Its been great to see so many locals and visitors enjoying local and international food and drink at the festival, alongside the extensive food and drink offering in Kingston.

“This really has been a highlight in the Kingston calendar and we're already planning for next year".
