Icy pavements in Epsom have been gritted in response to concerns raised by residents over the dangers of snow.
Epsom Council has gritted car parks, pavements outside schools, the market place and key shopping areas since Thursday evening.
A spokesman said: "It was something residents expressed concern about the last time we had snow."
Meanwhile Surrey’s fleet of 39 gritters are out salting roads with support from a quad bike and an army of 51 farmers with spreaders and ploughs.
Surrey County Council stockpiled 16,000 tonnes of salt before the winter, which is double the amount needed in an average winter.
Surrey council leader David Hodge said: "Getting through any severe winter weather requires us all to play our part.
"The county council has been planning for months to make sure it helps to keep the road network moving as much as possible, continues providing services to the most vulnerable and carries on providing grit for residents to spread in their community."
At the start of winter nearly 1,750 grit bins were filled across Surrey.
