Fancy a slice of politics with your music?
Yearn for the days of people power when individuals really could make a difference (against a backdrop of toe-tapping tunes)?
If so, Putney’s Half Moon is the place to be next Friday when the venue launches The DDR of RnB.
Billed as a unique night of socialist soul and rockabilly along with some revolutionary rhythm and blues, the evening will showcase not only a clutch of top-notch bands but also recordings of Lenin himself, giving speeches in the original Russian.
There will also be plenty of intellectual discussion on offer, with topics including GDH Cole, Antonio Gramsci and Luis Althrusser.
But the music will be the main appeal and for opening night it comes courtesy of Thee Faction and The Nuns.
Thee Faction are a Reigate band who have drifted in and out since 1985, while The Nuns will be joined by DJs Billy Reeves, babyface and Nylons for a night to stimulate the body and mind.
