Epsom Rotary Club have recently held two public collections which were well supported by the generous people of Epsom.
The first was before Christmas and this raised £3155 for helping local and international charities. Recently, the Club has supported ST Ebba’s Hospital, The Childrens Trust, a cancer hospital in Nepal which is linked to the Royal Marsden and it has funded a trip to the Pantomime in Epsom for young carers in Surrey (some are as young as 5 or 6) and given gifts to local old folks. The Club wishes to acknowledge the help given by : The Ashley Centre for allowing the club float to be garaged there, The Market Place for allowing collections to take place there, Epsom Travel for their administrative support, Epsom Coaches for the use of their cash handling facility and Supporters of the Club who gave their time so freely.
The second collection was on Saturday 16th January in support of the stricken people of Haiti and this raised £3000 in just one day. All of this money will go to funding “Shelterboxes” and “Water Survival Boxes” Each Shelterbox includes a tent for 10 people plus essential equipment and costs around £500. Each Water Survival Box contains water storage and purification equipment and a basic tarpaulin shelter – enough for 4 people for several months and costs £150. In both cases they are bought, assembled and stored in readiness for immediate dispatch when the next disaster happens.
The Club would like to thank: The Ashley Centre for allowing the collection to take place on their premises, Epsom and Ewell Council for granting the license by return of email and Epsom Coaches for the use of their cash handling facility.
The photos show previously prepared Shelterboxes being delivered to Haiti.
