Warren Mead Junior School’s new Head Teacher, Mrs Cunningham heard all about the ‘sad’ school garden when she met with school council at the beginning of the year. Mrs Malone subsequently joined the school to work with the children and revive the disused plot.

Warren Mead Junior School’s keen gardeners have been very busy throughout the year!

Overgrown flowerbeds have been flattened, weeded and filled with an array of flowers! The children are particularly proud of their smelly herb garden; ‘I have loved learning all about plants and especially the herbs.’ said Mia Quigley in Year 4. The children are most knowledgeable about the different types of herbs and potential uses! They have even sprinkled wildflower seeds to create a ‘meadow’ on the grass. The young shoots are particularly enjoyed by the school’s pet guinea pigs; Pepsi and Max who love spending time in the garden!

They have successfully grown a variety of lettuces, potatoes and carrots to name but a few. The children loved harvesting and sampling some of their vegetables. The pond has never been better and now sports a variety of insects including a couple of vibrant dragonflies and a few shimmery fish.
