How much longer will the residents of Stoneleigh have to put up with the illegal parking and other inconvenience caused by the annual parade to the Dell Lane Temple in early June – and indeed on other occasions through the year?

Last Sunday it was impossible to turn into Briarwood Road from Glenwood Road due to the parking on grass verges and near the road junction. People were actually in the centre of the road trying to manoeuvre cars through. This illegal parking happens every year.

It is true to say this considerable inconvenience only lasts a few hours but that is absolutely not the point. The issue is the fact that people, who do not live in Stoneleigh, come and park illegally, and indeed dangerously, without any enforcement from the usually overzealous Epsom and Ewell parking enforcement officers.

For the rest of the year woe betide any Stoneleigh resident who parks illegally as the enforcement officers are down on them like a ton of bricks – with bank holiday Mondays the speciality for "surprise" tickets when no inconvenience is being caused at all and many people are unaware that restrictions still apply. That is easy pickings for the council, so why not in the case of the festival in June where despite the dangerous parking nothing is ever done by way of enforcement when the council could in fact have a field day.

Yes, the roads are free for everyone to park, but why the discrimination against people who actually live in the area?

Stoneleigh never was big enough to have such a venue with the volume of traffic it brings and never will be.
