Your article in the Guardian of January 15, A&Es being swamped, isn't it about time that A&E departments start to charge people due to the time-wasters and people who repeatedly abuse the system?
I was talking to a gentleman the other day who told me he had heard the same people week after week sit in A&E waiting to be seen for minor ailments which could be sorted out by visiting their pharmacy. Also to sit and read papers in the warmth.
I realise there are genuine general emergencies who visit A&E and also people who can't get a doctor's appointment straightaway. But charging say a fee of between £5 and £10 would stop these time-wasters and the money could go towards hospital funds?
