Robson and Hutchins can look back on Wimbledon with pride

Laura Robson and Ross Hutchins will both look back on this year's Championships with a smile after impressive performances in their home tournament.

Robson, who lives in Wimbledon, brought her stumbling 2011 form to a close by winning her first ever match in a Grand Slam tournament before causing Maria Sharapova serious problems in the second round, losing 7-6 6-3.

Wimbledon-born Hutchins secured his best ever result in a Grand Slam by getting to the men's quarter-finals with partner Colin Fleming, before losing in five sets to fellow unseeded pair Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya, 6-4 6-4 6-7 2-6 6-4.

"It was a good learning experience for me," said Robson, currently ranked 254 in the world.

"It is good to know I can definitely play almost just as well as the top girls.

"It is going to be hard going back to the lower tournaments but it is something you've got to do to earn the right to play on such a big court again.

"I feel like I am playing well and I feel happy the way things are going.

"I feel happy to be at home a little bit and I think that's definitely showing on court a bit more."

Hutchins takes home a share of £31,250 for his quarter-finals appearance, which bettered his previous best when he made the last 16 in the doubles at the French Open three years ago.

"It was not the day I was hoping for but after five hours of tennis, my body is feeling good and looking back we had a positive grass court season," Hutchins, who also went out of the mixed doubles on Wednesday as he and Heather Watson lost in the second round, wrote on Twitter.

"We will build on this and work hard so we will be in more Slam quarters."

New Malden's Mel South made it to the second round of the mixed doubles with Jamie Delgado, after their first round opponents retired, before losing to the third seeds, but lost in the first round of the ladies' doubles.
