Richmond Ladies may have lifted the Women’s Premiership title last month, but if you took at glance at the England Women’s squad for their Six Nations opener in Scotland tonight you would not necessarily know.

Head coach Karen Findlay’s team have swept all before them on the domestic front this term, but only prop Vickii Cornborough and hooker Emma Croker have made the cut for lead coach Scott Bemand’s matchday 23.

Worcester, hammered by Richmond in their Premiership semi-final, have four players in the squad, while Darlington Mowden Park and Bristol – who did not even finish in the league’s top four – also provide four players each.

Former Scotland Women head coach Findlay has often bemoaned the lack of recognition for her all conquering team, but Bemand insists he has the best players at his disposal.

“We believe we have the best possible group to take us into a seven-week competition, having just come out of four good days in camp,” said former Harlequins player Bemand.

“The Scottish squad have been working hard and training together on a regular basis and so we should not underestimate them as a team.”
