Hampton resident Simon Amor believes his England outfit can end their 2017/18 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series campaign in Paris on a winning note, writes Ziad Chaudry.

In the penultimate round at Twickenham Stadium last weekend, the hosts were denied bronze medal in the closing seconds when Mark Roche scored a conversion to seal Ireland a stunning 21-19 victory.

Earlier in the day, Amor’s troops were beaten 29-19 by South Africa, who later lost to eventual winners and series leaders Fiji in the grand final, in the semis of the main cup competition.

“It was really up and down for us,” said Amor in his assessment on the two days. “We played some really good stuff but unfortunately we got our executions accuracy wrong a little too often this weekend but kinda that’s where we at.

“We’ve got some young guys coming back in and some older ones as well so it’s a big learn on for us, we keep on working hard and we’re excited about Paris next weekend.”

Former Rosslyn Park mini Harry Glover and former Harlequins Oliver Lindsay-Hague will also featured in next week’s final round in the French capital.

“Every ambition is to go out and win every single game we possibly can,” former London Scottish player and coach Amor continued. “They key thing is understand where we get it right where we get it wrong and learning very very quickly so that’s a big part of us we’ll do during the next five days.”

And next year England will be one of the favourites to win the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

“The World Cup is coming next July so it’s going to be a big challenge for us,” Amor concluded.
