Four London Rowing Club members have been given the strongest indication yet they could be involved at this summer’s Olympics after being called up to the Great Britain squad for the forthcoming rowing World Cup in Belgrade.
The quartet, who train at Putney-based London RC, of Bill Lucas, Sophie Hosking, Imogen Walsh and Rob Williams have all been picked to represent GB in May.
Lucas has been picked for the men’s double scull, with 27-year-old Williams called up for the lightweight coxless four.
Wimbledon’s Hosking and 28-year-old Welsh have both been called up to the lightweight women’s double scull.
The world cup in Belgrade is the first of three international regattas, with the next two being held in Lucerne and Munich.
All three tournaments are earmarked as the final build up towards the London 2012 Olympics and although the squads are not final, it gives a good indication as to who will be in contention.
