Jamal Lowe fired Hampton & Richmond Borough to a share of the Ryman Premier League summit and boss Alan Dowson admitted he was luck to have him.

The 21-year-old scored twice in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Bognor Regis town that put the Beavers level on points with league leaders Dulwich Hamlet.

The former Barnet trainee, who made eight league appearances for the north London Bees before his release in January this year, has been a revelation since moving to the Beveree from Hemel Hempstead Town.

On our way: Jamal Lowe, who made the Bognor defence look silly at times, slots home his first goal on Tuesday night

He has been deployed in an attacking quartet lead by Nick Kabamba and supported by Lowe, Jerome Federico and Brendan Kiernan in recent weeks.

And Dowson believes he can only get better under his guidance.

“He is an excellent player. He played well on Tuesday and we are very lucky t o have him,” he said.

Surrey Comet:

Thanks: Nicke Kabamba, number nine, is congratulated for his part in the opening goal for Jamal Lowe, second from right, on Tuesday

“When you have looked at a player for a long time, you worry what he will be like when you finally get him.

“But there have been no worries with him. Ever since he came here he has been absolutely top draw.”

While Lowe grabbed the headlines on Tuesday it was Nicke Kabamba who caught the eye at the weekend as his brace inspired a 3-1 win over Grays Athletic.

“Nicke might not have scored as many goals as he ought to, but you cannot fault his work,” added Dowson who has agreed to sign Kabamba permanently from Hemel Hempstead Town on January 1.

Surrey Comet:

Hard graft: Nicke Kabamba always puts in a shift for Hampton boss Alan Dowson and his team and Tuesday's 2-1 win over Bognor Regis Town was no different

“He works ever so hard for the team and allows everyone else to play as well as they are at the minute.”

Hampton have only lost four league games this term and only leaders Dulwich and East Thurrock United have scored more goals than them.

Hampton hero Charlie Moone has been forced to spend time on the bench and it is not just up top where the Beavers have cover.

Fouled: Hampton & Richmond Borough midfielder Dean Sinclair is brought down against Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday night

Dowson agreed a deal recently with former Brentford keeper Richard Lee to act as back-up to Bees loan keeper Mark Smith.

“We know that if there are injuries at Brentford and Mark [Smith] is performing well he is likely to return there,” added the manager.

“Richard has agreed to register with us. He has not committed to training and is just looking after himself in his spare time.

“If Mark goes he’ll come straight in. He has played in the Premier League, so I have no worries about him.”
