Chris Whelpdale has left AFC Wimbledon today by mutual consent, the club has announced.

Whelpdale, 30, spent one season with the Dons during last season and scored two goals in 23 appearances.

“Chris had a difficult time with us,” manager Neal Ardley said.

“He started the season well, but had a lot of niggling injuries, which meant that he did not play much in the second half of the season.

“I am sure that Chris will be a big asset to another club.”

His playing career has included spells at Peterborough United, Gillingham and Stevenage.
