Changes to train services for bank holiday

Passengers will benefit from longer trains and additional services over the busy jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Train provider Southern announced the changes to ease congestion as the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations are expected to draw bumper crowds to London.

The Epsom Derby (Saturday), the Royal River Pageant (Sunday) and the BBC concert at Buckingham Palace (Monday) will also increase demand for train services.

On Saturday, June 2, Epsom Derby day, passengers are advised to use Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs stations due to refurbishment work at Epsom.

All fast trains calling at Tattenham Corner from Victoria and London Bridge, and half hourly services between Victoria and Epsom Downs, will be extended to eight carriages.

The Royal River Pageant on Sunday could attract more than 90,000 people to Battersea Park.

No northbound trains will call at Battersea Park before 3pm.

Passengers will be required to circulate via Victoria, but there will be an additional hourly train calling southbound at Battersea Park, increasing arrivals to six trains per hour.

After 3pm, six southbound trains will call, with 10 trains per hour calling northbound.

On Monday, June 4, the BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace is also expected to draw large crowds.

Southern will be lengthening some of its late night and last trains to get everyone home.

A Saturday service will run on Tuesday, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
