As this year’s Derby draws to a close, thoughts are already turning to next year when the Queen will begin her Diamond Jubilee celebrations by attending the Epsom Derby.

The Queen’s 60th anniversary will be held over four days with an additional bank holiday given on June 5 and the late May bank holiday moved to June 4 to allow for a four-day weekend.

People will be encouraged to share Sunday lunch with neighbours and friends and a BBC concert will be held at Buckingham Palace on June 4.

The weekend will conclude with a carriage procession and thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Sheila Carlson said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Queen has decided to mark this special occasion with a visit to our Borough.

“I am sure that the anniversary celebrations will bring out a real community spirit and that everyone will be working hard to ensure that Epsom & Ewell are ‘fit for a queen’.”
