Middle order digs Sutton out of a hole

Sutton dug deep to grab a point as they snatched a draw at Surrey Championship Premier Division leaders Guildford on Saturday.

Chasing 298-8 from 63 overs, Sutton looked on their way to defeat as Tom Jewell ripped through their top order with five wickets to leave the visitors stunned on 64-5.

But the middle order proved more stubborn and a succession of good partnerships, particularly between Dave Mitchell (30 not out) and Tas Yazdani (53 not out) for the eighth wicket, saw them reach 213-7 from their 57 overs and leave with a point.

Beddington relinquished top spot in Division One as they were trounced at new leaders Spencer.

Chasing 255, only four batsman made it into double figures, Tom Bevan top scoring with 21, as they were bowled out for 89.

Cheam also leapfrogged Beddington as they went second thanks to an eight-wicket win over Purley.

Having bowled Purley out for 175, Daniel Phillips top scored with 80 as Cheam made their target with ease.
