Overall out to help his London Marathon mates
11:37am Friday 20th April 2012 in Athletics By Graham Moody, Sports Reporter
Scott Overall has one task at the London Marathon this Sunday – to help other British athletes qualify for the Olympic Games start line.
The 29-year-old, who moved to Sutton in November, was one of the first names to be confirmed in Team GB after running two hours, 10 minutes and 55 seconds to finish fifth at the Berlin marathon in December, quicker than the required 2.12:00 It means though that Overall, below, has been named as pacemaker for the British athletes this Sunday to help the likes of Lee Merrien, Benedict Whitby and Phil Wicks dip under the mark, something he is happy to do.
“It was fantastic to be selected for the Games in my home city,” he said.
“But I don’t want to be the only Brit on the start line – I want to have friends and team-mates beside me and am happy to do whatever I can to help.
“Of course, it will also be a good opportunity for me to have a serious workout on the London Marathon course as part of my preparations for the Games.”
