Ex-Bee Wood a target for Dons

Former Brentford winger Sam Wood has emerged as a major target for League Two AFC Wimbledon.

Wood, released by boss Uwe Rosler at the end of the season, spent most of last term on loan at Rotherham United having found first team opportunities limited at Griffin Park.

The Bees face a trip to Bury on the opening day of the League One season on August 18.

Rosler’s men then host Yeovil Town and newly promoted Crewe Alexandra on August 21 and August 25 respectively, in back-to-back clashes at Griffin Park.

Brentford, who are thought to be hunting Bristol City, defender Christian Ribeiro close the season with the visit of former Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers.

Meanwhile, Bees fans voted on Monday night to sell the entire club’s shareholding to supporter-investor Matthew Benham.

Supporters trust Bees United, the club’s previous majority shareholders, elected at a special general meeting to bring its five-year deal with Benham, who joined the Bees board in 2009, to a conclusion two years ahead of schedule.
