Jeffrey Schlupp and Wilfried Zaha’s goals either side of half time helped Crystal Palace secure their first win on opening day in three years.

Patrick van Aanholt’s reverse pass into Schlupp enabled the winger to rifle the ball past Fabri into the net four minutes before the break.

Despite the hosts pressing for an equaliser, Zaha ended the tie when he raced onto an Aaron Wan-Bissaka through ball to score late into the second half.

Here’s how we rated Crystal Palace’s players…

Wayne Hennessey – 8 – Pulled off some very important saves during the first half to keep the score down, but the Palace rearguard was collectively very good.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7 – Sessegnon was a real test for him and it showed at times but, other than a few scares, he held his own. Great assist for Zaha’s goal.

James Tomkins – 9 – An impressive performance but in terms of marking Mitrovic and dealing with danger when it came into the box. Solid. Man of the match.

Mamadou Sakho – 7 – Palace’s main counter to Mitrovic, he had his hands full on occasion. His marker did get the better of him sometimes but with mainly half chances.

Patrick van Aanholt – 8 – Good assist for Schlupp’s goal, productive on both ends of the pitch. Looks like he’s picked up from where he left off last season.

Andros Townsend – 6 – Quiet performance, spent more time coddling Sessegnon with Wan-Bissaka. Great cross into Benteke for a Palace chance in the first half.

James McArthur – 6 – Help to quell the threat of Tom Cairney and, as expected, was tasked with ensuring Palace remained solidly disciplined. Good energy but passing was off-kilter at times.

Luka Milivojevic – 6 – Similar vein to McArthur but more involved with important clearances and interceptions. Intriguing to see how he and Kouyaté fare together.

Jeffrey Schlupp – 7 – Looked the weakest link for the first 30 minutes as Fulham rode their momentum but scored an excellent opening goal. Not much else thereafter.

Wilfried Zaha – 6 – First 45 minutes showed why he’s a threat but not his best outing overall. A scrap with Cyrus Christie didn’t help and was frustrated by bad luck and near chances.

Christian Benteke – 7 – May not have scored but was a much-needed presence up top for Palace. Forced Fulham to think twice, was a big help for Zaha, and nearly scored himself.
