Croydon boxer Ross Dimmock believes it is never too late to go after your dreams, as he prepares to make his second appearance in the Queensbury Boxing League.

The 35-year-old personal trainer from Shirley will lace up the gloves on Saturday at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex, and Dimmock says he wants to put on a better performance this time out even though he stopped Essex slugger Darren Haggar in the opening round of his debut.

Dimmock will face Luton-based rival Roger Smith in a middleweight contest after shedding more than half a stone from his previous contest.

He puts that weight loss down to a rigorous training regime over Christmas, and putting in hours of work at the Dynamo boxing gym in Croydon, where he’s trained by head coach Martin Dilworth.

“Even though I won my debut back in October I wasn’t happy with my performance, so this time out I want to show more of my boxing and not be so eager to rush in," said Dimmock.

“All over Christmas I’ve been hard at work in the gym working on my boxing and really pushing myself on the technical side of things, so this time I really want to show people my boxing and just box this guy.

“I know I’m a lot older than most guys competing in the league, but I don’t think its too late for me to really do something in this competition, and right now I’m feeling stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been and I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can take my boxing this season."

Also in action on the undercard of the packed night of boxing, New Addington’s Danny Anderson will look to get himself back to winning ways after suffering his first league defeat last time out at the hands of Harry Combes.

Anderson will move back up to the league’s light cruiserweight division to face Surrey’s Scott Charlton who returns to the ring after a three-year hiatus from competitive action.
