There is good news for the Hercules Wimbledon's six-strong team that won silver in last month's Surrey senior men's road relay championship at Wimbledon Park.

Following the disqualification of winners South London Harriers for fielding an ineligible runner, Hercules have been promoted to the gold medal position.

The team of Dominic Kiralfi, Joe Clark, Cassian Hyde, Ben Toomer, Matthew Sharp and Fred Slemeck will be swapping their silver medals for gold ones, and it means Hercules Wimbledon retain the title they won in 2013.

Hercules Wimbledon's Claire Grima broke her own club record for the distance in the Cabbage Patch 10 miles road race at Twickenham on Sunday.

She clocked 60 minutes 26 seconds to take more than three minutes off her previous club record of 1.03:47 set at Dorking in July 2011.

Her time also broke the club women's veteran over-35 record of 1.05:54 set by Zoe Pike in Portsmouth in October 2008.

Grima, 37, was third veteran over-35 to finish in Sunday's race, while husband David clocked a personal best in finishing almost a minute ahead in 59:28.

Hercules Wimbledon's Alison Purnell took the bronze medal in the women's veteran over-50 category in the Surrey Masters cross-country championships in Richmond Park on Saturday.

She covered the 6km in 27:23, less than a minute behind the winner.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon are in action in the East Surrey League cross-country races at Lloyd Park on Saturday.

The youngsters race is over one lap of two miles with the seniors completing five miles. All races start at 3pm.

Hercules Wimbledon's track and field training sessions take place at Wimbledon Park athletics stadium on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30pm and Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Further details from coaching coordinator Maurice Sharp on 020 8337 8707.
