It’s been four years since Nick Bird lost his precious son, Adam, to neuroblastoma – a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.

Throughout Adam’s treatment and care, as well as after, Nick has campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and much needed funds for the organisations which helped his son through his journey.

He has been a trustee for Solving Kids’ Cancer (SKC) since 2016 and when Adam was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma, the charity enabled the family to raise funds to access treatment in Germany and the USA, which was not available in the UK. Sadly, despite these great efforts, Adam passed away 11 July 2013.

This year, Nick has challenged himself to run four marathons in four months to raise money for SKC. Starting in Gloucester and ending in New York, each run will also be colour themed. In Gloucester on the 6 August 2017, Nick will be head to toe in pink (including dyed hair) to reflect the colours of SKC. In Richmond, on 17 September 2017, the theme will be gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  When he runs in York on 8 October 2017, he will don green - one of Adam’s favourite colours. Finally, in New York on 5 November 2017, Nick will wear blue, another of Adam’s favourites.

Nick says: “To mark the date of us losing Adam, and because SKC relies heavily on funding to make a difference to those who need their support, I am running four marathons in four months. My goal is to try to raise £4,444 for this charity who supported our family through the difficult times and is there for other families like my own.”
