Pupils from Banstead Community Junior School saw their project come full circle this week when they sold the fruits (or salad) of their labour.

For the fifth year Waitrose provided the school with seeds to sow and grow. The children planted and looked after the plants throughout the spring and then sold their produce in Waitrose Banstead on Wednesday 28th June.

They sold lettuce and beetroot which they had harvested that day, as well as courgette plants which will produce vegetables later in the season. All profits raised from the project will be spent on the gardens in BCJS.

Mrs Marder, Teaching Assistant and Garden Club leader said: “This is a wonderful project for the children to be involved in. It shows the children the process of sowing, growing and selling produce from the start to end of the cycle. The children loved selling the items to the public, and are looking forward to next year’s season.”
