Epsom Primary & Nursery Celebrates Diversity during Annual International Week

This week has been the annual celebration of the school's international community and it really does show that solidarity and acceptance is firmly part of the fabric of the school.

The week started with a 'dress-up and dance day' where each class was given an international country to wear traditional clothing and perform a national dance.
Tuesday saw the annual International evening event where parents, carers and extended family members cook and bring foods from their country for staff, pupils and families to try!

Teacher Angela Burke, responsible for planning the weeks events said "This annual food festival is the highlight of many families calendar.  The children are ready to give any and all foods a try and the makers are so proud to tell others about the history and ingredients in their dish."

The finale of the week, saw the whole school parade in the playground, under the blazing sunshine and blue skies, waving flags and arms as one.  Many children wore traditional dress from their native countries.

Mrs Michelle Pollard, Deputy Head Teacher summarises her feelings "this week, but especially today, was such a fantastic way to celebrate our amazing children who embrace diversity and learn and develop collaboratively.

In the current climate and in light of recent events it was overwhelmingly positive to see such inclusive attitudes. Children were actively celebrating diversity and acknowledging that being different from each other is just fine. I am very proud of our families who share in our ethos that ‘Every Person Shines’.
