Presenter, writer and broadcaster CLARE BALDING will be signing copies of her best selling children’s book The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop at WHSmith in The Ashley Centre Epsom on Thursday 1 June from 4.30-5pm. And then at 5.20pm she will be in Epsom Market Place for the Epsom Derby Festival Week party.

Clare’s first book, My Animals and Other Family was published by Penguin in 2012. Based on her childhood growing up in an unusual household, it was published to critical acclaim and went on to win biography of the year at the National Book Awards. Her second book, ‘Walking Home’ was published in 2014. In 2016 Clare released her first ever children's book for Puffin Books ‘The Racehorse Who Wouldn't Gallop’ which has just been released in paperback format.

Charlie Bass - a horse-mad ten-year-old who dreams of owning her own pony. So when she accidentally manages to buy a racehorse, Charlie is thrilled. The horse she buys, Noble Warrior, looks the part: strong, fit and healthy. There's just one problem - he won't gallop. In fact, he won't even leave his stable without his best friend, a naughty palomino pony called Percy. Charlie is convinced that Noble Warrior has what it takes to be a champion. But can she prove it? Derby Day is fast approaching and only a win can save the family farm from being repossessed.

The Epsom Derby Festival Week is a joint event organised by What’s On In Epsom, The Ashley Centre, Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, Epsom Playhouse and Bourne Hall Museum.
