Epsom & Ewell Harriers kicked off the Lily B athletics League in style at the David Weir Leisure Centre on Saturday. They finished the day equal 1st with Guildford & Godalming and ahead of Kingston, Sutton, Holland Sports and Dorking.

The excellent result owed much to the fantastic team spirit and the many athletes who stepped in to compete in unfamiliar events in order to gain valuable points.

There were also a number of excellent individual performances. The club were particularly dominant in the 1500m races with Riona Stockley (5.32.6) and Kiara Valkenburg (4.54.4) both pacing their runs to perfection to record personal bests and take A string victories in the under 13s and under 15s, with Issy Stockley running strongly to take second in the under 17s.

There were also B string victories in the 1500m for Charlotte Tame and Lucy Fisher in the under 15s and under 17s respectively, with Iris Brown second in the under 13s.

The team's other A string victory was by Saffy Lewis-Collymore who won the under 17s Javelin, as well as finishing second A string in the 800m. Saffy was well supported by Lauren Flack who won the B string in the 800m, as well as the 80m hurdles.

There were also B string wins for Anna Pickup in the under 13s 200m, and for Lily Watson (under 15s) and Amy Catcheside (under 17s) in the shot putt.

Match Result: 1= Epsom & Ewell Harriers and Guildford & Godalming (298 points), 3. Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers (237.5 points), 4. Sutton & District (192.5 points), 5. Holland Sports (68 points), 6. Dorking & Mole Valley (31 points).
