Guildford and Kingston based small business, Nurse Ted, which produces picture books to explain cancer and other illnesses to children, gets a boost from Dragon Den's Theo Paphitis and Vice President of the Children's Trust, Jacqueline Gold.
Spurred on by winning a Twitter based competition called Bright Pig's Business of the Week, the Nurse Ted founders Dr Ffion Jones and Kerry Hyde entered a competition run by Jacqueline Gold.

Women On Wednesday, or #WOW, was launched by Jacqueline in 2011 and takes place every Wednesday. She encourages female business owners to tweet her with a short overview of what they do. Jacqueline then picks her three top entries from the hundreds of businesses that enter and re-tweets them to her followers (currently over 57,800). Ffion said, “Jacqueline looks for businesses that are interesting, that have strong brand values and that she thinks have potential to grow and succeed in their industry. Jacqueline stays in regular contact with the WOW winners and sees how we are doing."

A few days after winning this award, Ffion and Kerry tweeted Ryman Stationery, Robert Dyas and Boux Avenue Chairman Theo Paphitis about the Nurse Ted series during ‘Small Business Sunday’ and was one of six winners. Theo re‐tweeted Nurse Ted's message to his 500,000 followers.

Hundreds of small business owners tweet Theo on a weekly basis in the hope of recognition. Winners are profiled on the #SBS website (www.theopaphitissbs.com), become part of a hugely supportive community, have access to an exclusive members’ selling platform www.shopsbs.co.uk, attend the annual #SBS networking event where they meet Theo and gain valuable advice on running a business.
Ffion said, “We have been working hard for a year trying to raise our profile so that we can make our books more available around the UK so it is great to have support from Theo. We are very grateful to him for recognising our hard work and helping to spread the word about what we do.”
Small business champion Theo said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK.  My vision is that everyone who has ever won an #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes. The website and Shop #SBS will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish Nurse Ted every success.”
Ffion and Kerry are currently preparing the next book of the series on end of life with several other guides to follow over the next few years.
