Despite St Mark’s Church being a united congregation of Anglicans and Methodists they are cracking open bottles of Prosecco for Mother’s Day. There is a special service to appreciate mums at 10am on Sunday 26th March. The uniformed groups of the church and the local community are invited to bring their mums and show their appreciation and thanks.
‘Traditionally many Methodist churches abstain from alcohol because Methodism was born during a period in Britain’s history when alcoholism was rife and many families suffered hardship because the husband and father’s wage packet was squandered away on drink’ said Rev Des. Times have moved on and we now enjoy a glass of bubbly in appreciation of all the hard work mum’s do day in and day out.
‘We also recognise that not everyone has a wonderful mum; some suffer abuse or neglect. We try to be sensitive to those situations too’ said Rev Des.
