If you go down to the woods today you are sure of a big surprise. That is if the sight of a man hanging from a tree surprises you. But don’t be alarmed, it is only the annual clear-up of trees on the Woodcote Millennium Green.

The work is being done by professional tree surgeon Dan Nicholls, aided by this father, Jim, who lives nearby. Dan said: “Many people think that you just have to leave a tree alone and it will do fine, but that is rarely the case. “A little bit of maintenance now and again not only keeps a tree looking good but can also prevent long-term and perhaps fatal problems.”

Dan has just launched a new website – www.dnarb.co.uk – on which he explains some of the things owners can do to keep their trees healthy and looking good. He added: “Simple things can have a big impact. For example, now is a good time to give trees a good feed as the roots are starting to wake up and the sap starts to rise from roots to branch tips. “So apply mulch to the base of your tree now and you will be rewarded by much better growth come springtime.”
